[SOLVED] see here

I have noticed, that some pages begin with "www.physicsoverflow.org/..." whereas some begin with "physicsoverflow.org/...", i.e. without the www.

This does not seem like a great problem at first glance, at least it didn't to me, but now I realise that there is a huge danger in this.

First of all, this means, that when I login on a page whose URL begins with www.physicsoverflow.org, I am not automatically logged on to a page whose URL does just begin with physicsoverflow.org. (I have observed this, and the only explanation I can give is this) Still not a big issue.

Now, the big issue, which I have not observed yet, though, is that if you are logged in to both www.physicsoverflow.org, and physicsoverflow.org, logging out of either one does not log you out of the other. Now, this, is obviously dangerous, because few people will notice this issue, and this could end up being a problem on public computers...

So, this isn't exactly a "minor" bug (I'm changing the title of this question).

Update: It has now been observed that as I predicted, the same behaviour does happen with logging out. Logging out of physicsoverflow.org doesn't log you out of www.physicsoverflow.org

[SOLVED]

Voting seems to not be possible.

It seems to be fixed. But there are still no icons for  upvote and downvote. We can use simple arrow icons for now, and decide later if we want any fancy physics-related symbols.

Huh? I can still not vote, but Polarkernel is aware of the problem. Creation and annihilation operators would be funny icons to up and downvote :-)

Hm yes, I can't vote, again. There was a short period during which I could vote, though...

As for creation and aninhilation operators, that was exactly what I was thinking of.

[SOLVED]

It seems that a part of the images of the Q2A theme has not been transferred to the host. May solve also other issues.

It seems to be fixed now! All the images are also there, including the one for the RSS feed! Great!.

[SOLVED]

(or so it seems)

LaTeX isn't working for TP.SE questions.

./index.php?qa=999&qa_1=qed-wightman-theory-observable-fields-with-collision-theory&show=1034#a1034

Test:

$x = {-b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac} \over 2a}$

$$x=y$$

It seems to be fixed now. By the way, I think I saw polarkernels' comment here explaining this  is solved, the reason why this problem was happening, etc., but I  can't find it anymore.          It's not fixed any longer.

Was hard to find, but should be fixed now. Please report any negative observation about LaTex.

Unfortunately, it seems it is still not fixed.

Ah, it seems it is not fixed for inline tex.

It seems that this was some kind of timing issue. On my local server, the bug appeared only very rarely, while on this site it was invoked every time. Not sure, but I assume it was an interference between the MathJax parsing on the pages and the parser invoked in the editor, which disturbed the asynchronous operation of the parser. Restarting the MathJax parser at the document.ready event seems to do the job and to complete unprocessed math.

[SOLVED]

When importing questions from the SE network, it seems the corresponding posts get not always correctly assigned to already existing PhysicsOverflow accounts:

Sometimes it works: the answer got attached to the correct account

And sometimes it does not: my question was attached to a newly created account

Reason see here.

Does this work now?

Yes, it seems that my SE questions are now correctly attached to my SE user, thanks :-)

[SOLVED; I have re-imported all the questions of Dilaton, there is now exactly (56) enough quota left to import Dilaton's remaining questions, however, I will import them tomorrow]

There seems to be a bug or unexpected behavior when importing questions of a user with the same name but different emails on both sites:

As (presently) intended, after importing a P.SE question of mine, a new user with the slightly funny name Dilaton (SE-User  is created.

However, when looking at the profile of Dilaton (SE-User it seems that only the first imported question is correctly assigned, whereas the other imported questions

are neither assigned to the profile nor is the rep added up.

This is indeed very strange. On the post, it clearly states that it was asked by "Dilaton (SE User", who has 51 points, but on the profile, the question is not listed, and the rep is shown as 1.

By the way, there is something really wrong with the "Prevent Edit Conflicts" plugin. Instead of preventing a user from editing it when someone else is editing it, it gets rid of the edit done first. This is bad, and an edit conflict is not as bad, at least for us, since we have the revision history plugin. We should probably uninstall the "Prevent Simultaneous Edits" plugin.

Yes, kicking out the first edit is certainly not how it should work ... So I think it is better to unistall it too, as it seems not to behave as expected at all.

I have a feeling that this has something to do with the fact that your different posts are from different SE sites. The first post you imported was from Maths.SE, now the posts from the rest of the SE sites do get associated with Dilaton (SE User,  but do not get listed on the profile, nor does the rep gain from the posts count on the profile page.

There was a bug. While the plugin created a new user "Dilaton (SE-User" for non-matching email adresses, it searched the second time for a user "Dilaton (SE-User)", didn't find it and created the first user again. I have changed this tag now to "(SE)" only, for both actions.

Did you import already many questions? If not, the best way would be to remove them and to import again. Otherwise we will have to correct the user accounts using the new plugin. In any case, please wait with the merge, I like to add an additional  feature to the "Merge User Accounts" plugin.

@Dilaton Unfortunately it did not work. I don't know what can be done.

Ok, thanks for trying ;-). I guess now only Polarkernel can help ...

[SOLVED]

Is the message box of PhysicsOverflow broken?

For some days, I used to get notified by a yellow dot with a number therein beside my name in the topmost bar, but for same days now, these messages do no longer appear even though there are still new incoming things targetted at me.

Has anybody else noted this bug too?

Yes, I have noticed this too...

Difficult to test. The event logger to the database works fine and the history in my account is complete. I don't know in when the yellow dot should appear.

@polarkernel The history is indeed complete; however, the yellow marker (in the top-most log-in bar) is not appearing.

The funny yellow dot is back. It was the following line of javascript

in the <head> section, that has hidden the message box notification dot. It has been there in order to hide the "Hello" before the user name but has hidden the dot too. I have removed the "Hello" now with a custom language file.

@polarkernel Thanks! Oh my god, I clearly did a blunder by adding that!!!

It seems the plug-in for post revisions is not working.

answered Feb 20, 2014 by (1,975 points)

Don't understand. Could you please figure out more in detail, what you observed? I can't see the bug in the image, it's too small.

He probably means the issues conderning the revision history plugin, which are not so straight forward to solve such that we will probably have to live without it for a while ...

I mean, that the link to the revision history for the posts is missing. At least I can't find it.

After fixing two bugs that I have found accidently I tried to reanimate the q2a-edit-history-plugin of Scott svivian. Please report your experience.

The edit history seems to work now :-) for new edits done in the body of the post. However, other things such as simple retags or recategorizings or moderator actions such as closing seem not to get stored in the revision history.

Just wanted to test what gets stored by the plugin ... ;-)

For me personally it would be ok if just the changes to the body of posts and comments get stored, at least of now.

It points now to the second link, where edits actually can be suggested and reviewed.
