IT professionals working in the field who want to advance their career and already have a bachelor degree in IT may want to pursue a post-graduate degree. Both masters and doctorates are achievable as online university degrees. An IT professional who is already researching, designing, managing or evaluating computer information systems can earn the professional recognition of a Masters degree or even the title of Doctor.
Masters in Information Systems Online College Degrees
The iSchool at Drexel University offers a Masters of Science in Information Systems (MSIS). This online university degree is available to IT professionals already in the field, and to those who are just starting their careers. All students must demonstrate knowledge of information systems, computer programming, databases, networking and business. Students with no prior IT experience can take foundation courses to meet the requirements. IT professionals may use either previous education or work experience to meet the prerequisites.
Many other online universities also offer Masters-level degrees in Information Systems. When choosing a school, make sure it is accredited. Also make sure the online degree is available completely online – some schools require campus attendance for some classes. Many times colleges will combine a doctoral-level degree in information systems with another discipline, usually business management or organization. Other online colleges also offer Doctorates in Information Systems, sometimes in combination with a different program, like informatics or information assurance.
