  Can we install comment rating?

There is a plugin for enabling voting on comments (both up and down)

http://wiki.question2answer.org/doku.php/plugins/comment-voting

Can we try to install this and make it run? I have already seen some comments I wanted to upvote ...

This plugin was tested off line and it worked without any problems.

Ah so it's not installed yet, I was wondering why comment voting was not appearing (hadn't we suggested this before on the blog).

Edit: It worked without any problems? Then, great! Since we are supposed to be treating comments with much more respect than SE does, (this was one of the things that we should not copy SE about, on the blog, right?), this plug-in will be very important, in my opinion.

Of course, we can wait for others' opinions too.

The comments also need to be threaded by who responds to whom, and collapsed with an appropriate algorithm. This can be done, although Q2A is php based, and I don't know php, although I started learning it.

@Ron Maimon There is a userscript for that on SE, which I used to use (I stopped because chrome kept bugging me about it, I have now switched to chromium, which doesn't bug me about scripts), I think there is also a plug-in like this for Q2A, I have to check.

Edit: I see there was no such Q2A plug0in. Here-is the StackApp: http://stackapps.com/questions/2050/threaded-comments

Hm, I thought such relationships between comments (and also posts) are automatically stored in the database already ...?

They're in the database for sure, just no displayed by default. It is essential to keep the comments in threaded order, as in Quora, because comment discussions on a point can become extraordinarily long, and you need to keep them out of sight by default. It's easy enough to code, for a person who knows what he is doing, but since I am not such a person, if I did it, it would probably take a while. But it's a good learning project, anyway.

The plugin enabling voting on comments is installed and running.

Thanks, +1 :-)
