The merge-user plugin polarkernel is writing will have to be completed. This is important, because if rep is divided across accounts, the account owners will lose access to priviledges that they deserve.

And a thread needs to be set up for account-merge requests.

This plugin is developed and ready to use. I called it "Merge User Accounts". It is accessible only for super-administrators. Please do not yet use it until you got the usage instructions.

Please change "Referee" section title to "Reviews". This sounds nicer.

Done...

Maybe you could describe the Reviews section a bit in the FAQ too, if you have time? When doing it myself, I would probably mess things up ... :-P

The FAQ needs to be expanded.

Make sure that before the site goes public, there aren't any Meta questions on the main page, or "questions" page. Otherwise it lowers the general tone of the site.

If fact, why not do it now?

The issue is that the different sections (Reviews,Q&A, and Meta) are just  different categories of the same site with only one main page, so everything has to appear at the same place ...

I have no idea if and how this could be changed in a finite amount of time without delaying the public launch of the site to the infinite future.

An advantage of the Meta stuff appearing on the front page too, is that this prevents tight knitted power driven politically motivated cliques of rep hunters who are more interested in bossing otheres around than in physics, from ganging up in Meta (or chat) without the majoritey of users who are exclusively doing physics even noticing what is happening  ...

Users who really dont want to be destracted by the Meta discussions can still press the Q&A or Reviews button in the top menu bar for example.

I disagree with this. While it is possible (@Dilaton we just would need to change the main page to the "Q&A" category, which can be done through the admin panel), I agree with Dilaton in that this allows meta to be more well-used by all users, because or else , some bad users may get control over the meta and bring downfall to the main site too.

Also, after we go public, there wouldn't be probably that many meta questions too.

Another point to be considered is that there might be people who are most interested in reviewing, so I think we should let questions of all 3 categories appear on the main page and let the users choose themself what they want to focus on.

When the site goes online, you're going to have few physics questions posted and answered. Maybe one a week if you're lucky to start with. And to make matters worse, you'll have lots of Meta questions to iron out the bugs; and the swamping of physics by Meta will put a lot of professionals off from joining.

For the site to grow, it's essential to make the home page attractive to the type of people that you want to join; and right now it looks amateurish and a mess.

@physicsnewbie That's a good point, maybe we should change the landing page temporarily, and then change it back later after there is a steady inflow of main questions.

The reputation needed to vote must be changed to, say, 50. This prevents people from creating sockpuppets to vote theat easily.

We need to link to http://psiepsilon.wikia.com/wiki/PhysicsOverflow.org/tag-wikis on the /tags page.

There needs to be text, right below the "Most Popular Tags" heading, saying something like:

View the Full Tag Wikis (Tag Descriptions) here.

I would do that myself through the admin panel, but polarkernel has told me not to fill the site with javascript : )

Use javascript, in this case it's the easiest way. Thank you for asking!

@polarkernel I added this script through the admin panel:

<script type="text/javascript>
$(".qa-top-tags-table").before("View the Full Tag Wikis / Tag Descriptions <a href='http://psiepsilon.wikia.com/wiki/PhysicsOverflow.org/tag-wikis'>here</a>.<br/>"); ;
</script>

For some reason, it does' not work. It worked for me through tampermonkey. Maybe this has to be added into the PhysicsOverflow directory itself, by you?

Had to insert this in the tag-cloud-widget.

@polarkernel It is nice to have it in the tag-cloud widget, however, can it be inserted here too ? :  ./tags

Moved. The tag cloud has been the first place where I have seen the text "Most Popular Tags". :-(

A solution needs to be found for claiming posts from UnknownToSE.

Regarding the Q/A and Refereeing, it is important that the questions be reliably sorted out in a tree-structured tag system, like a directory, so that people will not have to browse through the whole thing or use a search engine to find all questions/answers relevant to HighTc superconductors.

This is a problem on SE, it makes the site unnavigable over time, as questions accumulate, and people forget what is duplicative of what. I don't know if this is something that can be acommodated on Q2A software, but it is a serious concern. When a user comes here, they shouldn't see a flat list of questions, but a sorted tree of topics, which resolve into questions, or a flat list if they look at the most recent questions only.

It is very possible, if the site succeeds, that you will have order 100-1000 questions a day. This can make things completely unmanagable extremely quickly.

answered Mar 2, 2014 by Ron Maimon (7,720 points) [ no revision ]

That would need sub-sub-categories, which are currently impossible in Q2A, but there are suggestions for this for the v1.7.

Here it is: http://question2answer.org/qa/31514/what-do-you-want-in-question2answer-1-7?show=31519#a31519 Please go there and upvote that suggestion, if you would want subcategories. I have already upvoted it.

This will also not be possible for the TP.SE questions, for legal reasons, I think.

There are no legal obstacles to retagging questions, you only need to move questions around. The only requirement from Creative Commons license is that you link to the history at SE, so that the document's evolution can be traced. I don't think one can wait for the Q2A developers, one needs to do it one's own self. I'll look at the Q2A git site, this is a very simple learning project, adding tree sorted categories.

@RonMaimon, no I meant re-categorising, because the banner only appears for questions in the SE.TP category. .  .

This strange bug that only half-associates accounts with posts really needs to be fixed.
