How do we deal with low-level questions on the main page?

In the case of questions being posted here that are below graduate level, how do we deal with them?

Personally, I think they should be taken off the main page, and put into a category where they can be dealt with out of view of most people, perhaps in "closed questions". There, the questioner can be advised on asking their question on physics stack exchange, or it being deleted altogether.

Closed questions don't appear on the main page.

@dimension10 great, the main thing is to prevent unsightly trash polluting the main page.

Sorry, I tested and found out that his isn't true.

I think that your idea is a great one, though, having a special category for closed questions so that they don't appear when we make /main the landing page. But I will wait for another vote.

Done. I have now made a new category "Closed Questions" for admins to move posts to.

The best way to go is to flag them or to use the close and delete review queues that will be accessible from the Moderate link in the top menu bar for example. People can then add (up)votes if they agree with closing/deleting to the corresponding answers. I am not sure if obviously bad things should be dealt with faster generally, depending on how efficiently people make use of the moderation threads?

I think that spam can be deleted unilaterally, but not off-topic answers. This can be subjective.

Just as there is a menu item ''Unanswered'' there could be a menu item ''Trash?'' where flagged items go automatically until they are resolved. This makes it obvious to anyone that they are questionable, and still allows those who believe there may be value in them to read and rate them.

Is this not the purpose of closing too ...?

This already exists. Requests for Close and Delete votes /4534 /4533. These are actually linked from inside "Moderate", but the links will work only after we move to our permanent domain.
